Personal Astrology
Why would an individual use astrology ? Individuals often use astrology for counseling . The comment has often been made that an astrologer, a good one that is, can do you more good in an hour than a trained therapist can in months. There are also those psychologists who work with astrologers or do it themselves. But this is only one aspect of astrology - yes times are stressful but we're not all neurotic or dysfunctional. For the 'normal' individual astrology can be used to achieve greater personal integration , for vocational guidance, to anticipate the 'slings and arrows of outrageous fortune' and roll with the punches so to speak, and to profit from them. To quote Shakespeare (again!) :
"There is a tide in the affairs of men which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in misery." - Julius Caesar - Act IV, Scene 3.
There are also more practical and immediate uses for astrology by the individual. Specific questions can be answered - should I take this job, should I buy this item, where did I lose that thing, what does this event mean to me, and so on. This is horary astrology. It won't tell you winning lottery numbers or how to win at Las Vegas but it will tell you whether or not a particular opportunity looks good. The science of gambling is actually better learned and guided by statistics but looking at your natal chart can indicate whether or not you're likely to be lucky at a given time.
Astrology can also be useful in managing and understanding relationships. Synastry - the interaction of two charts - can show the problems, benefits, strengths and weaknesses of a relationship. This can be a useful edge in all sorts of close connections from business partners to lovers. Again, informed choice is freedom.
Individual Services
1. I need your date, time and place of birth. This information is the starting point. It needs to be checked against some life events and physical appearance. It is not unusual for hospitals to record birth times when they get around to it and the memories of relatives or the clock to be off. In past times, the doctor was also an astrologer which often solved this problem to an extent. The method for checking the birth time is called rectification and has been in use for some time.
2. Once I run the chart from the initial time given, we need to exchange some notes on life events so it can be verified.
3. When the chart is verified, the next move is to calculate some indexes to determine the role and 'weight' of the significant planets.
4. After one last brief consultation to make sure things are still on track, we make an appointment to present the chart over the phone and I make some notes for that purpose. I can also send you a copy of the chart with some notes by mail if you like (I probably need to figure a charge for that but, for now take it as included) . Feel free to record the session or take notes.
This process ensures that we are working from a chart that is reasonably close to exact which should give a high degree of accuracy to any further work that is done with it.
Usually I spend about 2.5 hours in going over the chart not including collecting data on life events. The presentation usually takes about 1.5 hours. I include a discussion of the chart as a whole, the issues that appear most emphasized, some current issues (transits), and some spiritual indications. If there is interest and I do compute it anyway, I check the life expectancy to avoid discussions outside the scope of the chart and to point out crisis points as they occur in the life. There is benefit and difficulty in every life and it's reflected in every chart. Some have more benefit, some have more difficulty. Since the presentation is usually live, you also have the opportunity to ask about particular issues and to ask for clarification as needed.
I use primarily 'traditional' principles and methods but also include fixed stars where applicable, the 3 invisible (to the naked eye) planets, and portents (comets and novas) in effect and when applicable. This I call fusion astrology. I don't use asteroids, they are one trick ponies and do not have the 'weight' of planetary indicators. Thanks by the way for this focus on exactly what it is that I do. I may use it as a standard response for natal charts. I also do horaries (question charts) and elections (choosing the best time for an event or to start a project). And I can do revolutions (solar returns or birthday charts) as a guide for the coming year.
