Since its first discovery, astrology has inspired one of three opinions. The soft view which considers astrology a guide which can, at least sometimes be overcome and a useful tool for human Will. The hard view which states that astrology shows an unalterable fate. The dismissive view which regards astrology as a harmless or dangerous superstition but certainly not an art worth studying or a tool worth using. Our position is obviously partisan but we see experience and events as composed of three elements. Fate, Will and Chance. Without some element of Fate life would dissolve in boundless possibilities. Without Will, life would be without choice and an empty exercise. Without Chance life would be both more predictable and less interesting but it would also lack any potential for evolution and development. Most astrologers today describe fate and sometimes attempt to help the client accept it and find ways to work with it positively. A few, and the number seems to be growing, look at astrology as a proactive tool for making informed decisions and sometimes altering fate. There are best times to do things, there are best choices, and there are remedies for the slings and arrows of fate and chance. Astrologically this results in several types of charts and activities. For planning there are elections or ways to choose the best times in a given window. These will not always be the best times absolutely but by selecting them in this way the choice is optimized under the circumstances and there is more foreknowledge of what to expect. This gives a best available choice and a planning tool. When there is a decision question such as whether or not to buy a car or make an investment or other kinds of choice questions, an horary or question chart can be very illuminating. At one time I did charts for realtors and found things like liens against the property, water problems, and similar good and bad qualities that were not apparent on first inspection and that sometimes were intended to remain hidden. Discovering and managing your personal self and formulating means to change or make the best use of your character or job skills or other qualities, for getting an idea of what to expect next, and similar issues, there is he natal or birth chart. When you know you are not in a good situation or have great desire or seriously want to make a great change, there is astrological magic in the form of talisman and other artefacts. There are other kinds of practical magic and spiritual disciplines where astrology can be useful. It can also be used to plan group activities and business development. On a larger scale, it can also be a useful planning tool for cities and nation states and for other large scale enterprises and operations. This last is called mundane astrology. After a certain point in their studies, and depending on the inclinations shown in their chart, most inquisitive and philosophical astrologers are at least aware of all these uses. Individuals often use astrology for counseling . The comment has often been made that an astrologer, a good one that is, can do you more good in an hour than a trained therapist can in months. There are also those psychologists who work with astrologers or do it themselves. But this is only one aspect of astrology - yes times are stressful but we're not all neurotic or dysfunctional. For the 'normal' individual astrology can be used to achieve greater personal integration , for vocational guidance, to anticipate the 'slings and arrows of outrageous fortune', to roll with the punches so to speak, and to profit from them. To quote Shakespeare (again!) :

There are also more practical and immediate uses for astrology by the individual. Specific questions can be answered - should I take this job, should I buy this item, where did I lose that thing, what does this event mean to me, and so on. This is horary astrology. It won't tell you winning lottery numbers or how to win at Las Vegas but it will tell you whether or not a particular opportunity looks good. The science of gambling is actually better learned and guided by statistics but looking at your natal chart can indicate whether or not you're likely to be lucky at a given time.

Astrology can also be used to manage and understand relationships. Synastry - the interaction of two charts - can show the problems, benefits, strengths and weaknesses of a relationship. This can be a useful edge in all sorts of close connections from business partners to lovers. Informed choice is freedom, and sometimes security. There are also many questions, 'is the rumor true',' is he or she what the appear to be', and so on.

Why would a business use astrology ? Businesses have planning needs and astrology (mundane astrology ) is a good tool to estimate future conditions. Why would a group use astrology ? Everything that applies to businesses also applies to groups but there are some additional considerations. In a small groups astrology can be very useful in the process of admitting new members. It can be helpful in understanding and beneficially directing group dynamics. And it can be very useful in selecting the most favorable times for group activities and for planning them. This activity planning function can be useful in planning anything from a sponsored event like a concert to selecting a time for a group ceremony of any kind.

Of course it can also be used to consider the effects of unexpected events on the group and for understanding and managing the group's interactions with other groups. Usually this will be done by means of horary astrology.

The services below are primarily concerned with magick and metaphysical applications - the best times and designs for such things. Note that Renaissance Astrology also covers this to some extent. See the Crimson Rose for a list of neopagan traditions but bear in mind that astrological timing for such things has been found useful in a wide range of traditions. There are regular feasts and ceremonies, workings and special events and the fabrication or consecration of various artefacts, weapons, incenses, oils, talisman, etc. All of which are generally more effective with proper timing and sometimes totally ineffective without it. Viewing the charts before hand also aids in planning and focusing the Work. Of course this method is also useful for the obvious - the timing of the commencement of an operation or the casting of a spell or the best time for conjuration or invocation.

As those of you who have perused the literature already know, there are a number of ways to do these things depending on ones tradition, heritage, and preference. Those of you who have experimented to any degree, also know that results aren't consistent. Whatever your background; loading the dice in favor of the desired result by aligning your activities with the astrological energies and avoiding those times that are unfavorable for a particular Work, is always advisable. In fact, based on personal experience and experiences others have shared , it appears to be the critical factor. If the energy isn't there, you really can't expect much.

Good design is also a factor Again, regardless of your tradition, there are certain universal correspondences which work. Adding the specific forms and spirits connected with your particular tradition puts the activity in your terms but it's success or failure usually depends on timing and the wise use of appropriate correspondence.

For astrologers a self service, no cost feature to convert astronomical position references for stars, comets, and novas, new asteroids or the location of man made objects in space to their astrological reference. This is to make it easier for those interested in these items to work with them. We also make our starlists available for other astrologers - initially you will have to enter the data for positions and angles and a report will be returned with the stars and interpretive notes, later we will let you enter the chart data and get the star reports directly.. Initially we will offer only conjunctions in longitude and birth latitude stars but will add conjunctions in right ascension and promissors later. As we complete our work on the lists, we will also furnish a link to Kepler where it will appear as an add on module.

We also have a project in development to produce astrological maps of cities and their environs based on their foundation dates and locations.
