On Financial Matters

In many respects, getting financial advice is like consulting the seeress (Circe gazing into her mirror above).  Or worse, listening to the spin doctors of the financial pages and government agencies.  Always remember :

If you can't afford to lose it, don't bet it.

There are now thousands of choices in mutual funds alone.  Most stocks have been performing dismally ad with the low interest rates, bonds aren't taking up the slack. Real estate and collectibles are popular but that also means their purchase prices are a little inflated.  Outright gambling and the commodity markets are always open - and always quite risky. If you sit on your money, it doesn't work for you and is slowly eroded by inflation.  Energy prices, groceries, and rents just keep going up.  Taxes rise.  When your house appreciates, the property taxes go up, when the Federal tax goes down, local taxes and fees go up to compensate. Pension and retirement funds are shaky and some have collapsed.  That's the picture in the early 21st century.  It's not exactly a Bull market.

Sitting tight and hoping for better days is exactly what many people are doing while the markets 'adjust'.  Even in the Great Depression, some people did well.  People who sat tight generally survived but just barely.  We are now at the mercy of unfriendly markets, and they are indeed global markets.

What to do ?  There are several avenues open to individuals and businesses.  One of them is to forget about the global picture, which isn't very encouraging, and concentrate on finding an edge. That edge may be market information or a trusted information source but that's not necessarily tailored to your particular situation.  It may work or you may get some nasty surprises.  Or you could outright gamble at the casinos.  Or you could consult your astrologer.   Whether you are contemplating going into business for yourself, trying to formulate a gambling or investment strategy, work out your timing, or decide on a specific investment; a good astrologer can help you to make informed choices and act at the right time.

We do not even attempt to predict the movement of markets.  We leave that to the chaos mathematicians and the adepts (of whatever persuasion) in this business. If you want tips for investing on your own we suggest The  Beardstown Ladies, a book about how a small group of retired ladies did very well for themselves in the markets.  Although they are in financially related legal trouble these days.

We will, based on an horary, tell you whether or not a particular investment looks good and based on mundane astrology, offer advice on commodities investments.  As we stated above, our services are geared toward the small and medium sized business and by implication, the small and medium scale investor.

Arbitrage is a game for those who can mobilize large amounts of capital.   For a case study see The Predictors. Here we are aiming at providing assistance for investors with only a few hundred or at most a few thousand dollars at risk.  We do not offer advice on a commission basis, as unlicensed, this is illegal, and we feel it creates a conflict of interest since most licensed brokers will tend to steer their clients toward investments that pay the highest commissions to the broker. Recent scandals have exposed this problem. Our fees are based on reasonable and competitive fees for our analysis.

We do know something of compliance and the financial services industry and a bit about markets, but our aim here is to provide advice to the small investor based not on a deep analysis of markets and the movement of large sums of money, but rather, on personal, astrological, and common sense factors. Of course some knowledge of the markets and the investment process puts that in perspective, check out the books by Bogle and Murray below. Our philosophy is to concentrate on the personal case based and  how it relates to a bigger picture not the other way around
